Trekking around Mount Penitentes 360 traverse

This is a Trekking around Mount Penitentes, circuit 360 of 25 miles and is one of the most beautiful areas at the limit between the Chilean and Argentinean Andes. Along the circuit we will first ascend the Serrata Pass at 13123 | ft 4000 m. From the top we will be able to see Mount Aconcagua, the highest mountain on the American continent, as well as another important mountain called Tupungato Volcano of 21555 ft – 6570 m. After the ascent to the Serrata Pass, we will descend to Tupungato Valley from where we will admire amazing views of this emblematic peak, the fourth highest volcano in the world. This area is particularly remote and interesting for its wilderness and well-preserved fauna and flora.

Day 01  Mendoza city. Meeting with the guide at your hotel

Control and rent of equipment if required

Day 02  Transfer to Penitentes 9186 ft – 2800 m

Hiking 6 h to the base camp 11076 ft | 3276 m

Acclimatization and camping in tents

Day 03  Hiking up to Serrata Pass 13123 | ft 4000 m

Hiking down following the valley at 11076 ft | 3270 m to camp II | 6-8 h

Day 04  We will walk for about 6 h down the beautiful valley called “Quebrada Arroyo Blanco”

Camp III in the Refugio Blanco at the end of the Valley

Hike under 11076 ft | 3375 m, relatively flat with 2 or 3 river crossings

Day 05  8 km hike following the valley “Quebrada del Tupungato”

Then finishing on the international route to Chile | 4 h

Transfer to Mendoza

Departure 8:00 am

Return to Mendoza 8:00 pm

Average trekking time 6-8 h

Requirement Physically fit

Upper body
• 2 Top underwear, Polypropylene or capeline
• 1 Long sleeve shirts
• 1 Fleece jacket
• 1 Windproof Gore-tex jacket, It must have a hood
• 1 Down jacket, it´s better with a hood
